Your Step-by-Step NHBRC Registration Process
Getting registered with the NHBRC is a vital milestone for any builder in South Africa. While the official NHBRC site gives general guidance, this guide simplifies the process and adds practical, builder-focused insights. Our interactive Q&A material and online test lab help you prepare faster for your technical assessment.
Why NHBRC Registration Matters
Registration ensures you’re recognized as a compliant home builder, protects homeowners, and gives you access to NHBRC resources. This guide combines official requirements with real-world preparation tips.
Step 1: Create Your NHBRC Online Profile
Start by registering on the NHBRC e-Services Portal. Use your valid ID, email, and cellphone number to set up your builder profile. Once done, you’ll be able to upload documents and track progress online.
Step 2: Gather Required Documents
Before starting your application, ensure you have all the required, certified documents listed below.
Required Documents
- Valid CIPC registration certificate (for companies).
- Certified copies of ID or passports of all members/directors/partners/trustees. Must be certified within the last 3 months.
- If a member is not South African: certified passport and work permit required.
- Stamped bank letter confirming banking details or a cancelled cheque (not older than 3 months). No email printouts allowed.
- Proof of residence (not older than 3 months).
- Appointment letter of Technical Manager, including confirmation of technical ability and written acceptance of the appointment (if the Technical Manager is not a managing member).
- Trust resolution or Deed of Trust (Trusts only).
- Signed consent letter for credit check.
- Partnership agreement letter (Partnerships only).
- Constitution of Co-Operative (Co-Operative limited only).
Tip: Keep both hard copies and digital scans of every document for easy upload and future renewals.

- Annual membership fee: R526.32 (renewable every year)
Payments are made via EFT or bank deposit (no cash accepted at NHBRC offices). Always upload proof of payment during your application.
Step 4: Submit Application & Upload Documents
Log into your NHBRC portal account, upload all certified documents, and complete your builder registration form. Double-check that all documents are legible and current before submission.
Step 5: Prepare for the Technical Assessment
